Mercedes-Benz Unveils a Sport-Hybridized AMG GT Concept at 2017 GIMS, Invoking SLS AMG and AMG Hypercar

As the latest model to top the AMG line, the Mercedes-Benz AMG GT four-door fastback super sports car wowed enthusiasts at the March-2017 Geneva International Motor Show. But a HYBRID supercar? Do tell.

The buzz is all true. The new AMG GT's EQ Power+ performance hybrid design will boast under-hood both a handcrafted AMG 4.0L V8 biturbo engine to hit the ground revving right out the gate with up to 805 horsepower as well as a lightweight, long-range electric motor that offers three selectable modes for pure-electric, engine-only, and hybrid operation versatility. And brake recuperation tech's going to make it a distance cruiser, enabling battery charge recovery while you drive, with the vehicle's V8 on which to fall back should GT's electric fall below a certain charge threshold.

And the powerhouse promises to strike a memorable pose while she crushes 0-60 mph acceleration in up to three seconds thanks to a Panamericana grille, slim headlamps, side air gills, moving center radiator shutters and a deeply drawn hood design, flanked by a raked windscreen, that extends to the wheel arches for aerodynamics. GT will showcase an everyday design, too, for utility beyond the sport segment, with a sizable tailgate, roomy luggage compartment, and interior built for comfort.

A test drive in a comparable 2017 Mercedes-Benz AMG SLC43, SL450, SL550 or SLC300 Roadster is just around the corner to make it easy to get a feel for AMG GT and the emerging future of Mercedes-Benz drive configurations.
