Understanding the Difference Between Auto Warranties

There are two main kinds of warranties for vehicles. One of these is the powertrain warranty. This is the most common warranty, and it usually comes with certified pre-owned cars.

The powertrain warranty covers only a limited amount of parts. Typically this warranty covers things such as the transmission, engine, and differential. These are parts that are critical to getting the vehicle up and moving. Such a warranty can also cover the driveshaft and constant velocity joints.

A bumper-to-bumper warranty is a much more comprehensive warranty. It covers a much greater array of parts in the vehicle than a powertrain warranty does. You will rarely find a bumper-to-bumper warranty on a used car. Instead, this kind of warranty often comes with new vehicle purchases. This kind of warranty also tends to be short-lived.
