When you purchase a new car, you will have the option of getting a powertrain warranty or a bumper to bumper warranty. A power train warranty covers the transmission, engine and all of the other parts of the propulsion system. Keep in mind that if a part is considered a wear item, then it will not be covered by the powertrain warranty. This includes your clutch, battery, fluids and belts.

A bumper to bumper warranty is exactly what it sounds like. The warranty will cover the front bumper of your vehicle to the back bumper. However, your bumpers themselves will not be covered by the warranty. The audio system, electronics, suspension and air conditioning system can also be covered by your bumper to bumper warranty. A bumper to bumper warranty does cover more than the powertrain warranty, but it will not last as long.
